PIONEERING CONSTRUCTION AUTOMATION WITH TU BRAUNSCHWEIG

Baubot extends its gratitude to the team at Technical University (TU) Braunschweig, Germany, for their collaboration and participation in this case

study. Since 2022, Baubot’s mobile robotic systems have been integrated into the university’s research, focusing on automating construction processes like additive manufacturing, rebar integration, and surface treatment.

Collaboration & Innovation

TU Braunschweig acquired three mobile robotic Baubot systems - two in 2022, followed by another one in 2023. Initial studies with the systems for extrusion and shotcrete 3D printing paved the way for ongoing advancements. The university’s

multidisciplinary research covers material design and characterization, mechanical engineering, automation, and regulation, resulting in the exploration of a vast range of robotic construction processes. Moreover, as part of the collaborative reseach center “TRR 277 - AMC”, TU Braunschweig also collaborates with TU Munich to push the boundaries of digital construction processes.

Educational Integration & Trials

Even though Baubot’s mobile robotic systems are not integrated into the curriculum yet, students engage in research projects and academic writing involving robot-assisted construction. Baubot continues to support TU Braunschweig, addressing challenges around system performance and custom tool integration through technical improvements, as well as continued service support.

TU Braunschweig continues to advance its research using Baubot’s mobile robotic systems with a focus on automating more construction processes and enhancing system coordination. Looking ahead, they aim to integrate Baubot’s systems more deeply into their academic research, and programs as well as scientific work.
